MASSAGE THERAPY
"The ancient art of massage is fast becoming a necessity to people trying to cope with fast-paced lives."

Walter Zernis offers a broad base of techniques in both medical and holistic therapies to help enhance health and well-being.

SPORTS MASSAGE
Whether you are a "weekend warrior" or an athlete on a mission to stay fit and balanced, sports massage combines special techniques including compression, trigger point therapy, cross fiber friction and cold/hot therapy to enhance muscles, keeping them more supple and resilient for optimal workouts as well as recovery. This can reduce the likelihood of injury and speed up the healing process in the event of injury. Massage also provides a psychological boost to the athlete and lessens inflammation and swelling in joints.

MEDICAL MASSAGE
Medical Massage is sometimes defined as medically necessary massage, which is usually prescribed by a physician for the specific goal of improving health of patients. Medical massage is helpful if you are suffering or have suffered health conditions such as repetitive motion injuries, muscle spasms, neuromuscular conditions, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, chronic headaches, whiplash, rotator cuff injuries and soft tissue injuries often the result of vehicular accidents.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep Tissue Massage is designed to reach the deep portions of thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibers. Using deep muscle compression and friction along the grain of the muscle, its purpose is to un-stick the fibers of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held patterns of tension.Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two.

SWEDISH MASSAGE
Swedish massage increases the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. This style of massage can shorten recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. Swedish massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management. It also has many specific medical uses.

PRE-NATAL MASSAGE
Pregnancy is a phase of great physical and emotional change. It is a perfect time for a woman to practice nurturing and pampering herself in preparation for her new role as a caregiver. Regular Pre-Natal Massage benefits not only the mother-to-be, but also her unborn child by alleviating back pain, , as a good Pre-Natal Massage can alleviate insomnia, sciatic pain, stress on weight-bearing joints such as ankles, lower back and pelvis, assist in preparing the muscles used during childbirth and more.

ORTHOPEDIC MASSAGE
Orthopedic Massage is a unique non-invasive therapy approach to chronic pain developed through years of research and education aimed at revolutionizing health care. This may be an alternative to drugs or surgery for the treatment of Frozen Shoulder, Bad Backs, Sciatica and other muscular injuries. Orthopedic Massage focuses on the relationship of body alignment to specific problems and how tight muscles can affect those problems. Through the use of various massage techniques, such as neuromuscular, myofascial release, passive and active Range Of Motion (ROM) and stretching, you can begin healing.

REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology is a gentle form of therapeutic treatment applied to the feet and sometimes to the hands. It is based on the belief that there are reflex areas on the feet (and hands) corresponding to all the parts of the body including major organs. It is believed that applying pressure to specific areas on the feet, hands and ears can affect internal organs and body systems, and therefore promote good health. Reflexology can help releive pain associated with migraine, sinus problems, breathing disorders, digestive problems, circulatory problems, back problems, tension and stress. Reflexology is considered to be a holistic healing technique that aims to treat the individual as a whole, in order to induce a state of balance and harmony in body, mind and spirit.

TRIGGER POINT THERAPY
Trigger point therapy is involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Trigger points are areas of tenderness in a muscle. They are commonly referred to as muscle knots. Active trigger points cause muscular pain and will refer pain and tenderness to another area of the body when pressure is applied. Trigger points may be associated with myofascial pain syndromes or fibromyalgia. The pain caused by trigger points may be the biggest cause of disability and loss of time in the workplace.

ACUPRESSURE
Acupressure is an ancient Chinese technique based on the principles of acupuncture, and involves the use of finger pressure (without needles) on specific points along the body. Acupressure is a way of accessing and releasing blocked or congested energy centers in the body. Chinese cultures believe the points to be junctures of meridian pathways that carry energy or chi. Acupressure can help alleviate pain, tension, stress, tiredness, headaches, migraines, insomnia, depression and more. Acupressure can also be used for general preventative health care.

REIKI
This gentle, "hands-on" healing technique, in combination with massage or alone, can help relieve pain and boost the immune system. Physical manifestations of pain are often linked to emotional, mental and spiritual states. Through a series of treatments, depending on the specific nature of the disease, Reiki goes beyond the symptoms to treat the root cause of the disease. When we treat only the symptoms, we do not always get to the true basis of the illness. (See our REIKI page for more information)
